Classroom:Whittemore will Graduate Summa Cum Laude in May with his degree in Finance and a cumulative GPA of 3.6. He is a recipient of a Graduate School Academic Scholarship to the University of Alabama and a member of the Jacksonville State Atudent-Athlete Hall of Fame. His post-baseball goals include getting a Ph.D. in Finance after he completes his MBA.
Character:Clay is a very solid defensive outfielder and is a guy that keeps pushing himself to get better and better each and every day. He is the leader on the team that works extremely hard on a daily basis to improve his game, he has high expectations for himself and his teammates and also has the respect of his teammates and coaches. He has one of the best work ethics on the team and is a very solid person, both on and off the field.
Community:He enjoys working with young baseball players to help improve their game and is very involved in many baseball camps and clinics. He acts as a mentor to youth and is very involved in his Church, where he helps lead the worship service and preaches. He volunteers time when he is playing in summer baseball leagues to help area youth teams improve their game and skills.
Competition:As a junior, became the school’s first-ever Division I All-American and was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year after leading the OVC in hits (93), multiple-hit games (31), multiple-RBI games (20), RBI (69) and doubles (20)…was second in the OVC in batting average (.391), third in on-base percentage (.456) and eighth in slugging (.513)…has 53 career multiple-hit games during his 114 career games played, which equals an unbelievable percentage of .464 that he will have a multiple-hit game when he plays…started 56 of 60 games, including 34 in left field and 22 in right field…had a career-best 15-game hitting streak during the season (started March 7 at Mississippi State and ended at Troy on March 27)…ended the season on a five-game hitting streak…had three 4-hit games (Alabama State 3/14; Northwestern 3/19; UMass 3/19), seven 3-hit games and 21 2-hit games…drove in a career-high five RBI vs Alabama State (3/14), going 4-for-5…had 11 three-RBI games and eight two-RBI games…posted his best month after batting .449 (31-for-69) in April with 26 RBI…batted .405 (34-for-84) in March and drove in 22 runs…scored a season-high three runs twice…finished the season with three homeruns, hitting last at Eastern Kentucky on April 21…had 238 at-bats and struck out just 20 times and also had 20 walks…finished with 20 doubles…was 6-for-10 on stolen bases…posted his best OVC series against Eastern Kentucky, batting .583 (7-12 with six RBI and one HR).
