Classroom:Jared was selected to the 2007 Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll as a general studies major.
Character:Jared is regarded as LSU's team leader, and he has been described by LSU coach Paul Mainieri as one of the finest young men he has worked with in his 26 seasons of collegiate coaching.
Community:Jared is one of the most active LSU athletes in community-oriented projects. He regularly participates in school and hospital visits, and he has participated in the Buddy Walk to promote acceptance and understanding of Downs Syndrome and in the ALS Walk to promote research on finding a cure for Lou Gehrig's disease. Jared is also active in Thanksgiving food drives and Christmas toy drives in the Baton Rouge area.
Competition:Jared is LSU's No. 1 pitcher, and he is a 2008 preseason All-American. He was named 2007 All-SEC, and he was voted Pitcher of the Year in the state of Louisiana. He posted 10 wins and five saves in 2007, and he recorded either a win or a save in 10 of LSU's 12 SEC wins.
